When we went on a kayaking trip at Tomales Bay, we looked for a small type of sea slug in the kelp and eel grass. We finally found one when a piece of eel grass fell on my brother Devon. The eel grass had a sea slug stuck to it!

SOLVE-IT #4 International Puzzle

Follow the instructions carefully, ONE LINE AT A TIME. Be sure to do exactly what it says before moving to the next instruction. You can keep track of your answers by typing them into the white spaces provided beside each instruction. To clear the boxes, backspace over the last answer. Reloading will NOT clear the blocks.

1) Pick a number from 5 to 9

2) Subtract 5
3) Multiply by 3
4) Square the number (multiply it by itself)
5) Add the digits in the number together until you get only one digit; i.e. 64: 6 + 4 = 10; 1 + 0= 1
6) If the number is less than 5, add five. Otherwise subtract 4.
7) Multiply it by 2
8) Subtract 6
9) Give the digit its corresponding letter in the alphabet (for example: 1=A, 2=B, 3=C, 4=D...26=Z, etc)
10) Pick a name of a country (NOT A STATE) that begins with that letter.
11) Take the second letter in the country name and think of a mammal that begins with that letter.

A classroom in West Africa

Did you know that around the world, more than 115 million children who are primary-school age (grades 1-3) don't go to school?

Some reasons for this:

Poverty: families may need children to work to earn money to help support the family, or they can't afford the fees for school uniforms or other basic items.

Safety: in certain countries parents may feel that the journey to school is too dangerous for children, especially girls, to walk safely.

Local Traditions: some cultures place more emphasis on the education of boys and may not believe that girls need to be educated.

Shouldn't all children have the right to a good education? And shouldn't boys and girls have equal access to go to school?
