Kayaking
When we went on a kayaking trip at Tomales Bay, we looked for a small type of sea slug in the kelp and eel grass. We finally found one when a piece of eel grass fell on my brother Devon. The eel grass had a sea slug stuck to it! We usually see lots of sea gulls, pelicans, harbor seals, leopard sharks, bat rays, egrets, and cormorants. One time we saw a few flounders (a type of flat fish that covers itself in sand) hiding in the shallow waters in the sand of course! Once we saw a "wild" jellyfish floating in the water. It was as big as my head, pink with brown spots around it. My brother and I call it wild because it was out in the bay and not in an aquarium. It was all alone and when it saw the kayaks, it got frightened and started floating down. Another time a 4 1/2 foot bat ray went under our kayak and rocked our kayak when it swam away. We tried to follow it, but it was too fast. When grandma was visiting, we went and saw river otters on the rocky shore. There were three little otter pups that were curious and when they saw us, they jumped into the water and came a little closer to the kayak. After they were done studying us, they went back into the cave. If you ever visit Tomales Bay in California, look for lots of wildlife! |
